Ikam Expeditions and Raw Nature have partnered to produce a unique calendar using their exclusive photographic archives, with the aim of encouraging the community to safeguard Peruvian biodiversity.
Beyond this, the project serves as an educational journey, inviting people to discover endemic species month by month. Ultimately, it transforms every day into a chance to cherish our fauna, a heritage that defines our national identity.
Endemic wildlife of Peru calendar 2026
The calendar features 13 high-quality photographs of endemic wildlife species that are highly representative of Peru (Birds of Peru, Frogs of Peru, and Primates of Peru).
In these case, these photographs can be removed and used as postcards or placed in frames to beautify our social or personal spaces at home or at work.
Priced at 40 soles, 5% of all proceeds will support a reforestation project in the Ikam Expeditions Reserve at Morro de Calzada, Moyobamba, for the 2026 season. So, the reforestation project includes:
-
- Implementation of a forest nursery
- Identification and analysis of areas to be reforested
- Planting
- Monitoring of forest recovery

Portrait – Marvelous Spatuletail, Loddigesia mirabilis
A hummingbird endemic to Peru that only inhabits the humid forests in northern Peru in the department of Amazonas. Unfortunately, the species is classified as near threatened (Züchner, T. and P. F. D. Boesman, 2020).
This photo was taken by Pablo Romo at Huembo Lodge.
January – Golden-backed Mountain Tanager, Cnemathraupis aureodorsalis
Endemic to the high-altitude forests of the eastern slopes of the Andes in central Peru being Bosque Unchog in the department of Huánuco the most common location for this rare tanager (Schulenberg, T. S. and G. H. Rosenberg, 2021), although it has also been recorded in the department of San Martín.
This photo was taken by Pablo Romo in the Boshumi Regional Conservation Area in San Martín.
February – Scarlet-banded Barbet, Capito wallacei
This bird is one of the most important ornithological discoveries in recent years. The species is only found in the cloud forest mountains between the Huallaga and Ucayali rivers in north-central Peru, where the population is estimated to be less than 1,000 individuals.
Unfortunately, the species is considered vulnerable to extinction (Short, L. L., J. Fjeldså, J. F. M. Horne, C. J. Sharpe, and E. de Juana, 2022). This photo was taken by Pablo Romo in the town of Flor de Café – Plataforma, Alto Biavo, San Martín.
March – Pleasing poison Frog, Ameerega bassleri
Poisonous frog of the Dendrobatidae family, endemic to Peru and distributed in the mountain forests of the upper Amazon (eastern Andes) in the department of San Martín. This photo was taken by Erick Reátegui in the Cordillera Escalera Regional Conservation Area.
April – Bearded Mountaineer, Oreonympha nobilis
Peruvian endemic hummingbird that inhabits dry mountain scrublands with shrubs and rocky areas (Drucker, J. R. and C. W. Sedgwick, 2020). This photo was taken by Pablo Romo at Sacred Garden, Cusco.
Endemic to the upper Marañón Valley in central Peru. It can be observed in small, discreet flocks in the mountainous desert of cacti and scrubland, where it feeds on fruits or seeds from legumes, cacti, and flowers. The species is classified as vulnerable (Angulo, F., N. Collar, and P. F. D. Boesman, 2024).
This photo was taken by Julio C. Tello in Balsas, Cajamarca.
July – Buff-bridled Inca-Finch, Incaspiza laeta

August – Long-whiskered Owlet, Xenoglaux loweryi
Long-whiskered Owlet is a tiny species of the Strigidae family that appears to have extremely long facial whiskers. It is very difficult to observe because it hardly ever flies and hides in the dense cloud forest habitat.
The species is classified as vulnerable to extinction (Schulenberg, T. S. and M. G. Harvey, 2020). This photo was taken by Alex Jiménez in Yambrasbamba, Amazonas.
September – White-cheeked Cotinga, Zaratornis stresemanni
This species inhabits Polylepis forests between 3,250 and 4,400 m in the Peruvian Andes (Angulo, F., P. Pyle, and T. S. Schulenberg, 2024). This photo was taken by Pablo Romo in Santa Eulalia, Lima.
October – San Martin Titi Moonkey, Plecturocebus oenanthe
Endemic and endangered species, due to the accelerated destruction and change of its habitat. The species is found in the San Martín region in tropical forests between 750 and 950 meters above sea level, in secondary and semi-flooded forests (Proyecto Mono Tocón, n.d.). This photo was taken by Erick Reátegui in Ikam Expeditions Reserve.
November – Imitating poison Frog, Ranitomeya imitator
Ranitomeya imitator Tarapoto is a frog endemic to Peru that lives near Tarapoto (Amphibia Web, n.d.). This photograph was taken by Pablo Romo in Alto Shilcayo, Cordillera Escalera Regional Conservation Area, Tarapoto.
December – Yellow-tailed Woolly Monkey, Lagothrix flavicauda
Endemic and endangered species who inhabits primary remnant, montane, and cloud forests in northern Peru between 1,000 and 2,800 meters above sea level in the departments of Amazonas and San Martín, and in small areas of La Libertad, Huánuco, Junín, and Loreto (Yunkawasi, n.d.).
This photograph was taken by Erick Reátegui in the Hierba Buena – Allpayacu Private Conservation Area in Corosha, Amazonas.
