Primate watching route in
San Martin and Amazonas

Arrive to the airport and overnight in Tarapoto city.

We leave Tarapoto very early in the morning to a natural area located 40 minutes from Tarapoto city, where we will observe the  White-browed Titi Monkey (Plecturocebus discolor) and the Andean saddle-back tamarin (Leontocebus leucogenys), the latter recently categorized as an endemic species.

Then we will go to the Bajo Huallaga (by land and river), where we will be received by an association dedicated to the conservation of a natural area in the area. After lunch, we will begin our excursions through this wonderful Amazonian flooded jungle where we will spend the next 2 nights and overnight in a rural lodge with basic amenities.

You will be able to observe  Nancy Ma’s night monkey (Aotus nancymaae), the endemic Isabel’s saki monkey (Pithecia Isabela), the also endemic saddle-back tamarin (Leontocebus illigeri) and other species such as the Red howler monkey  (Alouatta seniculus), Poeppig’s woolly monkey (Lagothrix lagothricha poeppigii), Large-headed capuchin (Sapajus macrocephalus), White-fronted capuchin (Cebus yuracus), Common squirrel monkey (Saimiri macrodon) and Pygmy marmoset (Cebuella pygmaea niveiventris).

On the fourth day after lunch we will transfer to Moyobamba to spend the night in a local hotel with all the comforts.

Very early in the morning and after a trip of approximately 2 hours (1 hour by car and 1 hour by motorboat on the Mayo River) we will visit the Alto Mayo Wetlands.

In this very particular ecosystem of the area we will be able to observe the endemic and critically endangered San Martin Titi Monkey (Plecturocebus oenanthe), Red howler monkey (Alouatta seniculus), Large-headed capuchin (Sapajus macrocephalus), the Common squirrel monkey (Saimiri macrodon) and the endemic Andean saddle-back tamarin (Leontocebus leucogenys).

After lunch you will return to Moyobamba to spend the night in a local hotel with all the comforts.

Early in the morning we will visit the “Morro de Calzada” located 20 minutes from Moyobamba city, to have an additional opportunity to observe the San Martin Titi Monkey (Plecturocebus oenanthe).

We will have a light breakfast outdoors and head to a high cloud forest ecosystem, in the area called Abra Patricia.

Here we will have the opportunity to observe the Yellow-tailed woolly monkey (Lagothrix flavicauda) and the Andean night monkey (Aotus miconax), both endemic and critically endangered species. We will spend the night in a rural lodge, with all the comforts. On the seventh day, after lunch we will head to the Tarapoto city, where our services will end. It is included the service of guiding and / or tourist orientation, payment of admission to tourist sites, lodging, food, land and river transfers, activities, use of telescope or binoculars and information material.
